Are You Running Your Firm Like an Episode of Cheers?

You may or may not remember the old TV show “Cheers”.  In each episode the people that walked in the bar were greeted by first name.  The theme song even said “where everybody knows your name”.

Are you running your firms advertising that way?  By that I mean, are you assuming that everyone knows your name so you don’t have to put as much effort into advertising?

If you are doing that, you are going to eventually run out of clients.  NOT everyone knows who you are and there are always new people that you can get in front of.

The majority of people need to be reminded constantly of existing brands; look at Aflac, Progressive, Allstate and Geico – they advertise constantly.

Furthermore, I have heard that there is at least a 20% turnover in population per city/market each year.  That 20% will not know you from your past advertising.  They will only know you if you are in front of them. Maybe there is someone new in town, or someone that now needs the service you provide.  If you are not in front of them they are going to go to your competition who IS.

There may be a lot of people that know your name because you have been around a while but not everyone does.  You need to stay active and aggressive in your marketing by using creative and proven strategies that have the numbers behind them and work.
